The Caritas Hospital is an Indian hospital in Thellakom under the Ettumanoor municipality in Kottayam district, Kerala, India. The hospital is run by the Syro-Malabar knanaya Catholic Archeparchy of Kottayam and is registered as a charitable organisation.Caritas Hospital foundation stone laid by Cardinal Tiserang in the presence of Mar Thomas Tharayil on 27 November 1953. The site of the hospital, about six acres in area, was donated by Joseph Vallapally's widow and children. In 1962 Mar Thomas Tharayil, Bishop of Kottayam, in collaboration with a few German people started the venture of health care naming it ‘CARITAS’. The word itself adheres to the recommendations of the 1946 Bhore committee report "to ensure medical care for every individual including those who cannot pay for it’’. of the system, deficiency of proper planning, lack of true commitment and above all, widespread corruption, have led to the deplorable situation whereby ‘CARITAS HOSPITAL’ has to play a vital role in alleviating pain of the sick and the suffering, especially to those who cannot afford adequate treatment.
